It's Obvious! The Best Way to End Racism is to Talk About Racism--Why Didn't I Think Of That? Does That Make Me A Racist?

The Cable Gamer is still a fan of the ever-brunette Rachel Sklar, but I will admit that I am getting a little tired of her increasingly p.c. tone over at Huffington Post. Here's her headline today: "Finally! MSNBC's Three-Hour Conversation About Race in America."

Please, spare me. We've been having "conversations" about race every 15 minutes for the past 50 years. I don't mean to sound like Ann Coulter here, but it's obvious that such "conversations" have little to do with ending racism and everything to do with wallowing in racism, or racialism. Shame on Brian Williams, among others, for being part of such foolishness.

PS: Note to General Electric shareholders: This is what they're doing with your money.

Jeez, you'd think I went blonde!!

Don't known if you watched the doc/discussion but I really did think they were interesting and great. And I don't know what ratings are like but I'm all for devoting the airwaves to stuff like that.

Second, I am not sure these conversations happen as much as you say. Yes, everyone's been saying after the Obama race speech "we need to have this race conversation" but it was said before - I remember Tom Brokaw saying that everyone thought Katrina would lead to a discussion of race and class in this country and it never did. For whatever reason (Obama obviously being one), race is in vogue right now to discuss - and that's a good thing. Being from Canada I didn't grow up learning about MLK and didn't grow up with the same kind of exposure to race issues/history. I watched "King" last weekend and was really surprised about a few things I didn't know about. The extent of racism in this country - just wasn't something I was exposed to. So my sense is that now there is more of an excitement to deal openly about this stuff, and hopefully it will move some kind of needle. Yes, I will cop to being earnest and PC. But I have no prob being earnest and PC about this stuff.

Upshot: Watch the doc and the discussion and then get back to me! It may make you feel mushy and PC too.

But thanks for liking my hair.

Cheers,
RS
