Cable Game Exclusive! Ed Gillespie Blasts NBC News!! Live From Washington DC!!!

Ed Gillespie, a Republican big shot now serving as Counselor to President Bush in the White House, just blasted NBC News at Grover Norquist's legendary "Wednesday Meeting," the weekly conclave of leading conservative activists in Washington DC.

As Cable Gamers know, the White House has been at war with NBC News since May 18, when reporter Richard Engel mugged President George W. Bush, using sneaky editing.

NBC is sticking to its unfair and unbalanced position, as Brian Williams made clear on "Nightly News" on Monday. Meanwhile, of course, such not-ready-for-broadcast TV hit men as Keith Olbermann are actively dumping on the Bush White House.

But now Gillespie is fighting back. At the Grover meeting--150 or so folks, representing the top grassroots leaders and representatives of groups around the country--Gillespie joked that MSM reporters, siding, of course, with NBC, are sucking up. MSMers are "talking to Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews like they’re Edward R. Murrow," Gillespie quipped.

And then Ron Kessler, the always-interesting reporter for Newsmax.com, asked Gillespie, "Will the White House cut off NBC?" To which the White House man answered drily, "John Yang is a decent reporter." In so doing, of course, Gillespie deftly left out any mention of the rest of NBC News. Then he added, thinking aloud, "Maybe [NBC] can have an interview, but only on the condition that [NBC] air it in its entirety."

In fairness--OK, more like pseudo-fairness-- NBC has posted the entire Bush interview on its website. But as Gillespie noted, a web-posting is not the same as running the edited version twice on national TV. Meanwhile, those who wish to see the White House position in detail can click here to see the full text of Gillespie's angry May 19 letter to NBC News president Steve Capus, as well as supporting materials.

But then Gillespie this morning continued, "If you look at the editing [of the Bush interview]... if a presidential campaign ran such a snippet...NBC would run a fact checker thing, and hammer [the presidential campaign], for deceptive advertising." Pow!

This White House vs. NBC controversy isn't going away, folks. If NBC News can get away with ambush editing today, it will get even worse in the next few months, as NBC and MSNBC and the rest of the MSM go all-out to elect Barack Obama.

It's OK, Erin Burnett, We've All Done It--NOT!

CNBC's Erin Burnett says that she so, so, sorry that she called George W. Bush a monkey. Video here, thanks to Ian Schwartz.

Indeed, Erin assures us that she has "the utmost respect" for the President. Sure, Erin, that's why you called him a monkey.

Bill O'Reilly Crashes Harvard Yard

OK, you'd figure that a snobby magazine about a snobby college would seek to diss an alum who happens to be the President of the United States, just because that President was a little too red-country to be blue-cool. But you might not expect the purplish--someone in the middle, looking out for ordinary people, and their values--Bill O'Reilly to rank so high.

That's the case with a magazine called 01238, after the zipcode of Harvard University. The mag, playing to its liberal audience, put Al Gore at the top of its list of "most powerful" alumni, bumping George W. Bush to second place. I mean, like, Bush is the commander-in-chief and everything, but what's the presidency next to the starring role in a movie about global warming?

But interestingly, amidst the likes of Bill Gates and Barack Obama , FNC's own O'Reilly turned up, at #24. O'Reilly's ranking is completely justified, of course, but it's still surprising to see it admitted to.

No doubt some of the more liberal readers will demand a recount.

MSM Bias Against the Bull: Why America Needs the Fox Business Channel

Today the Dow Jones Industrial Average briefly went above 14,000, to close today at 13,971. That means that the DJIA has almost doubled since it hit a low of 7700 in 2002, amidst post-9/11 uncertainty.

Which is to say, the bulls are back, even if few are paying attention, as we shall see.

Indeed, the stock market has picked up 1000 points in just the past three months. For purposes of comparison, it took almost 90 years--from the first publication of the Dow index, in 1884, through 1972--for the Dow to gain its first 1000 points, and now it gained that many points in just a quarter of a year. And all this in the middle of wars, terror threats, and super-high oil prices--now that's hott!

So where and how did this news play on the MSM? "CBS Evening News," with Katie Couric, buried it, giving it just a passing mention. "NBC Nightly News" led with the story, but Brian Williams emphasized the undercutting questions of "who's benefiting," and "who's being left behind?" TCG didn't see "ABC World News," but as of 10:30 PM ET on Tuesday, the DJIA story ranked 12th on the ABC website; the buoyant news was weighed down with this heavy-snarky headline: "Market Booms, But Do You Own Any Duds?"

The truth of the matter, of course, is that when the stock market goes up, everybody wins--from stock-option-holders to pension-fund beneficiaries to all of us who simply benefit from job- and wealth-creating economic dynamism. So that should've been the news, that America is richer than ever. But it wasn't--not tonight, George. Not ever for you, George W. Bush.

This Cable Gamer is old enough to remember when things were different--when the MSM were excited about the bull run. That was back in the 90s, during the Bill Clinton years, of course, when the MSM were happy to give credit to a Democratic president. Back then, the papers were full of articles about how great Clinton was, and how great his treasury secretaries were--especially Bob Rubin.

But now, noting that the market has gone up is the same as giving the incumbent Republican President, George W. Bush, credit for the economic boom. Well, TCG thinks that 43 does deserve a lot of credit. But the MSM won't give him any--the good news about the economy has simply disappeared.

I'm not surprised, of course--nor will a lot of Americans, who are now fully aware of the distorting tricks that the MSM play in order to cast credit on their favorites and cast discredit on enemies. But it matters to the rest of us, because a lot of us know that one of the reasons that the economy has done so well is because the Republicans have cut taxes. I realize that tax cuts, like any economic policy, are controversial, but let's have the debate. But to have a debate, you have to show both sides. And that the MSM simply won't allow.

The MSM joke has been on us, at the expense of we the people, for these past decades. But now an outraged citizenry is wide awake; we will get the last laugh. We watch Fox News as much as we can, and we will be watching Fox Business News when it preems on October 15.

Lies, Damn Lies, and the Blogosphere

"Roger Ailes Jokes About Obama as Terrorist" -- that's the thoroughly dishonest headline atop MyDD.

This is b.s. folks, as the transcript reveals. Ailes was joking about George W. Bush, not Barack Obama. MyDD, and the Huffington Post, and any number of other liberal sites and blogs, are obviously hoping that gullible readers will just read the headline not actually read, or think, for themselves.

CNN stands for "Cafferty Nattering Nuttily"

Once upon a time--in the last century--Jack Cafferty had a certain amount of charm. He was aging into a kind of Andy Rooney-like curmudgeon-itude, displaying a witty equal-opportunity disdain for the petty rudenesses and idiocies of every day life.

But instead, somewhere during the last few years, Cafferty himself became rude and idiotic. Although, of course, since much of his rudeness was aimed at George W. Bush, he has no doubt received high-fives from his masters at CNN, whch was once known as the "Clinton News Network," and might yet again earn that label.

The best single index of Cafferty's decline and fall into zealotry is NewsBusters, the great blog-pendium. NewsBusters' Scott Whitlock caught Cafferty descending even deeper into the Bush-bashing abyss, as the CNN man lamented that it was "strange" that the Democrats weren't picking up on the effort by outgoing Cong. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) to impeach Bush.

What is Cafferty doing, spending tube time talking up Cynthia McKinney? The crackpot Congresswoman will no doubt spend the rest of her post-"public service" career (she was booted by her constituents earlier this year) hanging out with Cindy Sheehan, Hugo Chavez, and Noam Chomsky. And so is Cafferty giving McKinney this big wet kiss? Maybe because he believes all that left-wing stuff. Or maybe he's just following the line at CNN. Or maybe a little bit of both.
